Abyssinians

Abyssinians are a highly active and personable breed. Abyssinians love people and "helping" them in all household activities. They are very intelligent, mischievous, independent and affectionate. Abyssinians enjoy climbing to high places such as kitchen counters, bookshelves and cat towers. Abyssinians frequently retain their kitten-like behavior late into adulthood.

For those who appreciate a somewhat impish personality, an Abyssinian  will quickly become your best friend.

Abyssinians are accepted in four colors within the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA). Ruddy and red are the most common colors, blue and fawn (referred to as the dilute colors) are less common. Abyssinians are slightly smaller than the average cat, females usually grow to 6-8 lbs. and males usually grow to 8-10 lbs.

Somalis

Somalis are long-haired Abyssinians. Somalis and Abyssinians have the same personality traits and are accepted in the same four colors. Somalis usually grow to be a little larger than Abyssinians.

Despite their description of being a long-haired Abyssinian, their coat is full in the ruff and tail giving the Somali a fox-like appearance. The coat length is longer than an Abyssinian but much shorter than a Persian or Maine Coon. Their coat rarely mats and needs just an occasional brushing to prevent tangles in the underarm and "britches" area.

Placement of Pet Cats and Kittens:

Each kitten is placed between 12 - 16 weeks of age to provide sufficient time for socialization, two rounds of inoculations, and recuperation from their spay or neuter and microchip proceedure.  Kittens and cats are placed with contracts requiring that the kitten or cat be kept exclusively as an indoor pet and prohibiting declaw. All of our kittens are sold with a health and genetic guarantee with a replacement clause. Our breeding cats are tested for FIV, FeLV, PK, and PRA to help ensure healthy offspring.  Due to the increase in check fraud in recent years, we only accept cash or payment in advance of possession. All kittens and cats are placed already altered (spayed or neutered), micro-chipped, vaccinated and registered with CFA. The price for a pet kitten is $1000.00 (which includes the above veterinary costs typically incurred by the new owner).  A retired adult or retired show cat is generally between $150.00 and $400.00.

Shipping & Delivery:

Pet buyers are encouraged to pick up their kitten or cat in person or to ask about in person delivery. We have family in southern California and Illinois who we visit regularly, and occasionally we travel to other cities for cat shows and business travel, which makes it possible for us to deliver kittens or cats to their new homes personally.

Pet Buying Tips:

1. Make sure that the sales contract describes all health guarantees for infectious diseases and genetic conditions including the amount of time that the breeder will take a kitten back without question and the length of time for guarantees for genetic conditions.  Avoid breeders who insist their kittens are healthy but give no written guarantee, or that provide very short health guarantees of 24 - 72 hours.  Ask the breeder for their veterinarians' contact information in the event you have a problem with or questions about your kittens health. Avoid breeders who insist their cats and kittens are negative for Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids but will not show proof of testing - Kittens that are sold with a guarantee of being negative for Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids should have had at least one kitten in each litter tested.

2. Discuss your adoptive home environment with the breeder so that they can guide you to the kitten with the best personality to blend with your expectations, family, and or other pets.  A breeder who raises kittens in their home will know the particular nuances and personality traits of each individual kitten. The breeder can help guide you to a kitten that will fit best into your household. Not every kitten will be a good match for a busy household with young children or dogs, let the breeder help you to find the right personality.

3. Visit with the entire litter in the place where they are raised, and let the kitten pick you whenever possible. Sometimes only one kitten is available but the best option for you as the pet buyer is to visit and allow the kitten to choose you.

4. Be wary of breeders who insist on meeting you at an off site location on the premise that they are trying to do you a favor to save you time and or travel costs.  If you live close to the breeder that you plan to purchase a kitten from, ask to visit the kittens in the breeders home.

5. Legitimate breeders register their kittens and the cost is typically $20 per litter, you should expect to receive registration documents with your kitten and you should not be expected to pay extra for them.  The same goes for the pedigree of your kitten.  Some breeders do not offer this because some pet buyers are only interested in the registration papers for the kitten they are purchasing but if you wish to see a pedigree of your kitten, the breeder should be able to produce one for you at no cost.

6. Be wary of breeders who display photos of other people cats and or homes on their websites to mislead pet buyers about the pedigree of their cats or their living conditions.  Kittens raised in a home enviroment look at ease and comfortable in their surroundings, photos of kittens raised in a cage frequently appear "staged".

Placement of Show and Breeding Cats:

Placement of cats for show and or breeding purposes is limited to persons who have demonstrated a strong commitment to their role as the care taker for their pets and to improving the health and quality of the breed through active participation in cat shows. Persons interested in acquiring a show or breeding cat should be prepared to discuss in depth, their intentions, prior experience and future plans.

Pedigrees for Front Range Abyssinians and Somalis may be found in the EROS database.

Stud Service:

To provide the healthiest environment for our cats,  we maintain a closed cattery and we do not provide stud services.

Home Visits:

Our cats are our pets and they live in our home with us. For privacy and security reasons we can not accommodate the numerous requests we receive for visits from persons whom have not committed to acquire a kitten or cat. We encourage prospective pet buyers to come to any of the local cat shows where they can meet us and see our cats and kittens.
